Fit ‘n’ Fuel

This has been quite the week for me; back to school, two personal bests for two different training runs, and a couple other things I’m rather proud of that have happened. 🙂 Let’s start with some fitness shall we?

Fitness

So this has been my week:

Sunday: 15k (just over 9miles) (1hour22min)
Monday:  5k @ easy 6min/k pace
Tuesday: strength (arms/weights) and 1600m swim
Wednesday: 5k @ 5min/k (25min!!! That’s fast for me, but it felt fine)
Thursday: strength/cardio interval “circuit” training
(I love thursdays at the gym, b/c I go at noon and couple really bad weight loss reality shows Last 10 pounds bootcamp and X-weighted are on, totally keeps me there long)
Friday: 6k at 5:30ish pace (really tough my legs were tired from Thursday!)

Saturday: off
Sunday: 16-17k run

At least that’s the plan, we’ll see how it goes. 🙂

Fuel

Something I would really like to work on is fueling myself properly. That might sound weird coming from a Food, Nutrition, Health student (and potential dietetics student?) but I definitely haven’t been the epitome of health all the time. This week has been fairly good, up until yesterday, when I definitely indulged my chocolate monster. (blizzards AND mini eggs anyone?)

But mostly I’ve been eating well. Relatively speaking, my eating is good. It’s better then it has been in the past, I’m not trying to diet at all, I just really want to read up on fueling my body to have the best times ever!

Here’s something I’m oddly proud (and sort of shy about too…) of:

Go there, then go to pages 4-5. 😀 I am Student Health 101 Campus Correspondent for UBC. it’s unlike anything I’ve ever done before, but I’m totally enjoying it I have to say. And I hope it keeps going.

Well that’s about it for now. I want to go out and get me some running shoes, so I can break them in before the half-marathon.

So I will see you soon!

Inspired

Well this past week I’ve been locking myself up trying to get a little work done.. And very little work has been done indeed. It’s really hard to concentrate when, if I feel like procrastinating, the Olympics are on TV.

I have to say I’m very glad indeed that UBC gave us two weeks off instead of one this year. I don’t know what I’d be doing if I had to be back at school already. I’d be so far behind!

I find the Olympics super inspiring. I know I could never, ever be an Olympic caliber athlete, but seeing those men and women get out there and do a sport flawlessly really makes me want to keep being active.

So to inspire myself to keep at it the way I have been at it, I went online this week and paid some money to run this little race:

bmo

No I’m not doing the full marathon, but I am going to do the half Marathon on Sunday May 2nd, right after I finish up all my exams and have to move out of residence.

It will be my first running race in over two years, and I’m really looking forward to it. It will also be my sixth half marathon. But I haven’t run a half marathon in over 4years, in fact the last one I did was the BMO in 2006. So we’ll see how it goes.

I’ve started “training” and by that I mean trying to increase my mileage and do a few speed workouts.

Have you ever done a running race? If so what distance? Would you ever want to?

Challenge: Day 1

Hello!

Today my breakfast was most blogger like. Thanks to getting groceries yesterday I actually had peanut butter.

Yum, the chop stick worked awesome for mixing up my peanut butter.

And the main event: IMG_2628

Into Pot:
1/3 cup oatmeal
3/4cup water/milk
1/2 banana thinly sliced

Toppings:
3-4dates chopped
1 tbsp raisins
peanut butter. Don’t know how much. 😉

I then went for a 10k run with  my friend Ally. We’re actually planning to do a race in November (10k) and then a half-marathon in February. Awesome right? The run today was amazing, perfect autumn weather; sunny, colourful, crispy, cool, but not frosty or anything. Just lovely. So I’m pretty sure we did 10k, but my garmin wouldn’t start right away so it only recorded part of the distance…

Then I showered, blah blah. Then I had lunch:

Mack’s Flax, Silver Hills Bread
Tomatoe,
1/2 advocado
cheddar cheese
spinach

Notice the closed laptop, and the faraway remotes? Yep, this was my technology free meal of the day. Although tonight will also be technology free; I’ll be eating a free thanksgiving dinner at my friend’s residence. Hopefully there’s lots of vegetarian options! 🙂

Well I’m basically procrastinating doing school work, so I’ll say so long for now! But I’ll try and snap some shots of tonight’s meal.
