Sometimes Smaller is Better

LIke when you’re eating dessert. LOL, who am I kidding?

But when it comes to grocery stores I really love a small store.

groceries 001

Last year this was my main grocery stop. I hated taking the bus to safeway, and well, this wasn’t that much more expensive.

Then Save-On moved in and it’s closer then Safeway, cheaper, newer and prettier, and not much further, so I’ve been going there this school year. But I haven’t had time what with the Fiesta and then midterms and stuff.

So yesterday I hit ‘er up, because I had about an hour and didn’t feel like the trek to Save-On. Plus I’d discovered that Granville Island Produce at the Village, had this:

Extra Big Jar of my new Love Almond Butter (shhhhh don’t tell peanut butter). And since I eat almond (or peanut) butter everyday I wanted a bigger jar, and Save-On definitely didn’t have that.

And then yesterday I discovered they also have this:

YUMMY! This is my favourite “soy sauce”. And it’s low sodium too. I haven’t been able to find it forever! And it’s great on popcorn with nutritional yeast.

Anyway, I bought all these groceries:

groceries 003 It came to 41ish $. That’s not much more expensive really, and considering the almond butter was 11.99$, I mean there’s 12$ worth of it already…

And I enjoyed those veggies with some Bragg’s, Olive oil and balsamic vinegar, roasted for 18min… With a side of Mexican Rice leftover from out Fiesta!

yyyyuuuummmm. It was so good.

Also ate a mango. I have so much trouble peeling/cutting prepping these! Do any of you have some good tips/suggestions?

Alright I’m a gonna try n study. Can’t say it’ll happen.. but the effort will be put forth.

How to throw a Fiesta!

Hello All!

What a weekend! It all started Friday…

When my friend and I went to pick up some decorations… rits fiesta 004

And Draw Prizes…

rits fiesta 005

Then I had a night of planning, where in I had to calculate food for 80ish people!

rits fiesta 010
Look at that grocery list ^! Isn’t it nuts?! 8kg of ground beef?! lol. Money from ticket sales for the grocery shopping.

Get up ridiculously early on Saturday to go pick up said groceries. 😛 9am we headed out to Costco and Superstore.

Come back for a “rest” where in some more questions/problems and other such rest disturbing occurrences occurred.

Then got decorating!

rits fiesta 016

And cooking!

rits fiesta 012

Look at this fridge!

rits fiesta 011
(not all of this is our food though, like those stale pita bits…)

rits fiesta 020

Yes the vegetarian had to cook some meat. Ew! It was so beefy-juice. Ick.

rits fiesta 049

The buffet!

I totally got busy and didn’t take photos of the end products! 😦 Oh well. Here’s what was on the Fiesta Menu:

  • Tortilla chips
  • Salsa, gaucamole, hummus, and 7-layer dip.
  • Cut up veggies
  • Build your own Burrito:
    • beef, or refried beans (both made from scratch!)
    • lettuce
    • tomatoes
    • cheese
    • sour cream
  • Mexican-style Rice
  • Ice cream sundaes
  • Pop
  • Virgin Margaritas

This was the most successful event I’ve been a part of. We had 80 people total, and Rits is a small dorm (only roughly 200-300 people), so that’s a huge number of people.

I had been stressing big time about getting enough food, especially since it was so many more  people then we’d anticipated. But it all worked out. We had extras of the rice, and toppings really. Oh and Ice cream, but that we can just use for another rits event! So it all worked out in the end.

And of course there was a wee after party. 😉

I’m definitely having trouble getting anything done today though. :p Oh well. I’ll try and get some things done today, so they’re just out of the way for later this week I think. In other words, do the stuff that only needs half my mind.

Till later this week all!

The Last Shop

Dun Dun Dun.

Well I survived the double examing today. Barely, but I’m alive. Let’s just say… I don’t even want to think about it.

I’ve taken the afternoon/evening off. Watched TV, napped. And went for my last grocery shop here in Van! Until January that is. Yep, I’ll be leaving in one week exactly! This time next friday I plan to be home sweet home.

The Loot:

Yep. Look at that kale! So nice and green. Last week I had my first Kale Chip experience, and I think a repeat is in order for this week. 😀 And lots of other healthy snacks. Picked up some dried mango, which I’m munching on right now. And a little chemical treat, aka coke zero. Sometimes a girl’s just gotta indulge!

On the agenda for tonight. CLEANING!!! Yay! Yes I’m looking forward to cleaning. See I love neatness. But I’m a total clutter bug. It’s funny to go home (to my parent’s home) because when I first arrive it’s usually nice and clean, then these little piles of paper, or my computer, or like other random junk just end up everywhere!

And it’s the same here. Seriously, my s*** is all over the place. I don’t know how my parents put up with me. Guess I’m just so lovable.

Want some before pictures? Hopefully soon they’ll be after pictures. (though it’s going to be one of those, clean while chilling evenings. aka the tv will be on.)

Man. look at that junk! Those bags in the corner are full of hoodies that residents bought…

And the bedroom:IMG_3080 Ok, is my giraff print housecoat not fabulous? It was a rando Christmas present from my mom last year.

And the other corner of the bedroom:

… I have no excuse.

Well, I’m off, and I’ll be back later, with some after pics.

Night internet folks!

30-Day Challenge!

Hello All!

How’s it going everyone? For those Canadians reading, enjoying the long weekend?

Here in Vancouver the weather is gorgeous. Warm, sunny, just beautiful. My friends and I enjoyed it outside shopping on Robson street. It was lovely to just be walking around downtown when it wasn’t crazily busy.

I ended up buying a lovely pair of leggings and a shirt dress. Super cute together, and hopefully with other pieces of my growing wardrobe.

My friend and I ended our shopping trip by going to Safeway. Oh yeah, I’e been running low on groceries (no peanut butter!!!!!!!) recently, so a grocery shopping trip was definitely in order.

Look at all the loot!!!!!!! (I know, you’re all like, why do I care about the food??? Where’s the dress and leggings?? 😉 )

Anyway, I bought this food with a plan in mind. I have meal ideas for most of these. I plan to roast that eggplant, the mushrooms tomatoes in olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Yum yum.  (*drool*)

I will also chop up the broccolli and use it with the carrots and baby bells for snacks. yum. I bought bananas specifically with oatmeal in mind!

This evening, I cooked spaghetti squash for the first time ever with my friend Joyce. I baked it, then mixed it with a spaghetti-style sauce (can diced tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, and spices.) topped with a little cheddar cheese. It was so good.

And this brings me to my topic of the day…..

30-Day Challenge!

This is what I look like 3/3 meals a day:

Okay maybe a little less masculine, and I would probably not be eating a sandwich with white bread or some mystery meat, but the basic idea is there.

So I’m sure many of you know the dangers of eating when distracted. Supposedly, it can lead to obesity or something. 😛 Not sure how I feel about that. But as a person who pretty much eats every meal in front of the computer (I’m not joking either) I think it’s time I start listening to the advice and stop eating in front of the computer or the TV.

So my challenge? (to myself and those who want to join)

To eat one meal a day at my kitchen table without any technology. That’s right. Hopefully I can make this dinner, or find a time when my roommates are eating. I might allow myself a book, but really, how bad can one meal a day without my computer be? 😉 As a student, who pretty much lives on her computer, it might be tougher than you think.

But today I successfully ate dinner with Joyce. Okay, the TV was on, but I wasn’t looking at it, in fact I couldn’t even see it from where I was sitting…

So whose with me? 😉

And for you Canadians out there, what are you having for thanksgiving? What’s your favorite part of the meal?

Summer Day

Today has been an average summer day. I began with breakfast, Wasa crackers and almond butter, looked at blogs, worked on learning about blogging, and overall lazyness.

I then set out for a run around 10. Unfortunately I’ve had a weird calf pain, like a tightness, that I can’t run through, so it turned into a walk instead. I walked for 1:04:53, a decent walk to make up for my run I think.

I took pictures of my lunch:

This grand salad had chickpeas, cucumber, tomatoes, cheese, red onion, red pepper, and carrots. Yummy.
Followed by dessert, an apple and a spoonful of peanut butter, 😉 . A delicious lunch.

I then went and bought some groceries for some baking I will be doing today and tomorrow. I’m goin on an overnight hike with my dad and brother and we need some nice dense energy foods to bring with us. I’ll try and remember to take some photos of those.

Well I don’t have much else to add today, I’m mostly just trying to feel my way into this blogging world, we’ll see how it goes.
